McIndoe Plumbing Co Ltd was established in 1974 by John McIndoe as a plumbing, roofing and drainlaying business.
In 1986 John’s eldest son Jim began working for the firm learning all aspects of the trade. At this point the business was operating out of John’s home premises. In the late 1990’s an opportunity to purchase a run down shed and property on Waitete Road came up and the business was relocated to where it is today.
In 1998 McIndoe Plumbing Co Ltd expanded, adding an engineering department to meet an industry need for stainless steel design and fabrication in the meat processing plants. The Company continued to experience rapid growth with the engineering diversification. In 2002 ownership was transferred to Jim and with this the trading name was changed to McIndoe Group.
In the early 2000’s with Jim’s experience in the Meat works industries, the Bootmaster Bootwash and Solewash machines were designed, fabricated and patented. These machines are distributed throughout the North Island and have set an industry standard for boot hygiene.
By 2004, McIndoe had expanded its run down shed into a fully fledged engineering and plumbing workshop with a growing nest of assets including guillotine, press machine, gantry crane and a fleet of vehicles and machinery.
In 2007, with Jim’s initiative, McIndoe Group expanded to include a motorcycle department with the addition of the Kawasaki Franchise to its banner of trade. In the following year, McIndoe Group expanded further and built a showroom to house the expanding motorcycle, engineering and plumbing departments, complete with bathroom and kitchen displays.
In keeping with the growing diversity of the company, in 2010, the company changed its name to McIndoe Group Ltd to encompass all departments under one logical banner. The company experienced continued growth in the motorcycle industry and during 2010, McIndoe Group added King Country Can-Am to its growing company profile.
In 2010 with Jim’s experience and knowledge he gained a National Certificate in Infrastructure Pipe Laying which opened up the next level of drainlaying industry work. This reinforced McIndoe Group's skill and competency with the already growing niche and projects awarded in the infrastructure works industry.
In early 2011 a local engineering company fell into receivership and with the opportunity to expand the engineering department, by early June, McIndoe Group purchased the local general engineering department of Racewell Engineering, adding further scope and diversity to the already skilled engineering team.
From this point, a new mechanical workshop was built to house the mechanical service bay and tyre shop.
In 2012 McIndoe Group extended motorcycle sales to include Big Dog Mowers. This was later followed by the opening of Southend Tyres and a mechanical department.
The drainlaying department came into its own by branching out and extending their capabilities with the purchase of a Directional Drill and locator. This aspect of drainlaying is quickly becoming a sought after service and has been utilized by the Waitomo and Otorohanga District Councils and local contractors.
Today McIndoe Group’s diversity has extended to include the designing, fabricating and installing of a variety of industrial, farming and meat industry equipment to large scale infrastructure works and civil engineering contracts. The Engineering and Plumbing departments continue to service the greater King Country area with domestic, industrial and commercial clients.
